The vivid alternate realities presented in a dream may open waking-life possibilities and exhilarate the sleeper with a newfound sense of freedom. This open-ended series kicked off at the NIU Art Museum where I created site-specific, text-based fabric works that could situate the viewer within my recent dream occurrences. While my sleep has been marked by hypnagogic journeys and high-sensory, colorful scenarios in the past, I have lately been dreaming up fully formed performances and artworks. The pieces at NIU utilize the architectural features of the gallery to open the liminal spaces on the periphery of our spacial awareness. A DREAM UNFOLDS hangs from the ceiling and two pieces from YOUR PERFORMANCE DREAM JOURNAL float over the museum’s window shades and create a moire pattern in the daylight. The latter journal excerpts also offer viewers an invitation to conjure the dream fragments as if their own.
